When Glass’s condition slows them down, Captain Henry offers a reward to any two men who will stay behind with Glass until he dies and then give him a proper burial. Fitzgerald then convinces a horrified Bridger that Glass is already dead, and they abandon him, leaving him partially buried in a shallow grave.
