“It was so much simpler than that, and so much worse,” she says, pulling her knees to her chest. “I just… forgot how to be a person. I was on stage in Phoenix. We were three songs in. The lights were this specific shade of amber—the same as my childhood bedroom, the one I left at sixteen. And I looked out at 18,000 people screaming my own lyrics back at me, and I thought: I have never once said anything real in this building. ”
Your own spiritual practices and cultural background have been an inspiration to many. Can you share a little about your personal journey?
“Born in Sicily surrounded by the Odyssey’s landscapes, it’s easy to understand how big the ancient Greek cultural impact is on me,” Lucy shares. “It was extremely stimulating to connect that with the emotional response of those inputs from Rrose, who comes from a very different cultural background, and a different continent”. I don't think of myself as a role model, because that implies perfection. I make mistakes. I put out projects that fail. I want people to look at me and think, "If she can mess up publicly and keep going, so can I." The internet rewards curation, but life requires messiness.
